Valley of narcisses

In the Carpathian Nature Reserve "Valley of the Narcissus" unique wild mountain daffodils grow, which have not survived anywhere else in Europe. According to scientists, during the glacial period, geological cataclysms took place and a huge piece of land slid down from the mountains together with plants that became the celebrity of this valley.

In the spring, this area receives an extremely elegant appearance. In March, the valley is decorated with gentle snowdrops, in April they are replaced by white flowers. Then comes May. And then the valley of the daffodils is transformed. As in a fairy tale, it is covered with a solid carpet of snow-white daffodils. They were not planted by a man's hand. They themselves sowed the very nature. These are wild relatives of garden narcissi - Narcissus narrow-leaved. Wild daffodils seem very similar to the garden ones. And the smell is just as pleasant. Only wild daffodils are higher, and the flower is larger than that of garden ones, and reaches a diameter of sometimes 10 centimeters.

However, the Valley of Narcissus owes its fame not only to daffodils. There are also other types of plants listed in the Red Book of Ukraine. This is, for example, Astrantia major, Colchikum autumnale, Crocus banaticus, dog's tooth (Erethronium dens-canis), snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis), spring blossom (Leucojum vernum) and a number of Orchids. Here live such rare species of animals as the newt (Triturus vulgaris) and the lake frog (Rana ridibunda)

Especially many kinds of butterflies: such handsome men as the admiral (Vanessa atalanta), the day peacock eye (Inachis io), the mercy (Nymphalis antiopa), the cigar (Cythia cardui), the wine merchant wine (Deilephila porcellus) - not a miracle for this region. There are also the machaon (Papilio machaon), the subaliria (Iphiclides podalirius), the brazier Proserpina (Proserpinus proserpina), Saturnia pavonia (Saturnia pavonia), which are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine. Given such a variety of butterflies, the Valley of Narcissus could also be called the Valley of the Butterflies.
