Lake sinevir

The largest lake of Transcarpathia is Sinevir, was formed 10 thousand years ago at an altitude of 989 meters above sea level ... Lake Synevyr is rightly considered the most valuable natural treasure of the National Nature Park "Sinevir" and is one of the visiting cards of the Ukrainian Carpathians. It has an average area of 4-5 hectares (0,01- 0,02 km2), its average depth is 8-10 m, the maximum - 22 m.

There is a legend according to which a picturesque lake was formed from the stream of tears of the count's daughter Xin, at the place where her beloved, simple Verkhovyna shepherd Vir was killed by a stone block on the orders of an insidious count.

In fact, the lake was formed as a result of a powerful shift caused by the earthquake. Mountainous rocks grew on the way of a fast brook, forming a dam and completely blocking a narrow valley. The hollow was filled with water from three mountain streams. In the clear water of the lake, trout are lacustrine, rainbow coloured and streamy. Landscapes are extremely picturesque and majestic. Steep slopes, covered with slender fir trees, whose age is 140-160 years, fall directly to the water surface. In the middle of the lake, a small island with an area of only a few meters was located, like the pupil of a blue eye. Hence the popular name - the Sea Eye.

People try to supplement the beauty of nature with their creative imagination. Architect Yuri Solomon successfully entered the survey sites in the surrounding landscape. And on the peninsula, the sculptural composition "Sin and Vir" carved from mahogany (sculptors Ivan Brodin and Mikhail Sanych) towers. The height of the monument is 13 meters. Reflecting in the water, it is perceived mysteriously, as a beautiful fairy tale of immortal love.

Both way distance is 240 km.
